Hand Free in the City: Backpacks
Backpacks have long taken me back to my childhood, where I filled it with heavy textbooks and carefully maneuvered through crowded buses to find a spot to accommodate both of us. However last fall my job introduced in the handbag assortment a gorgeous black pebbled leather bag, that captured my adult attention ( now available in golden henna).
This bag became my go-to for over 3 months, feeling like my partner in shopping crime. My boyfriend seeing my love for "the backpack," also requested one for Christmas. Which I obliged with a Herschel Supply Co., Survey backpack ( this past weekend they held a sample sale and you can view my BF finding below).
Sadly due to a flood and sudden death of my bag I have been on a search for a new backpack. ( If someone has suggestions on how to get the pipe water smell out of my beloved bag, I'm all ears!) Until then, I was lucky enough to find the Proenza Schouler Small PS Courier Backpack in red at my TJ Maxx visit from my last post. It was also red tag reduced from $999 to $649. Once home I saw this is still selling at retailers such as Net-A-Porter, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys in this color and size for $1675-$2635. Score!
A number of signature styles by designers now have a backpack variation. Could this be due to the city needs of fashionistas? Or a way to attract those college student who' shoulders and thin strapped bags can't withstand the homework assignment books? Either way, they have gotten this lady in her 30s to revert back to a childhood nostalgic style. I am hoping to score another at the 3.1 Phillip Lim sample sale happening this week.
As I stated above I would also share some bags that my BF picked up at the Herschel Supply Co. sample sale that occurred Friday and Saturday in NYC. Many of the styles available at the sample sale are on the website at full price.
